Angry as&m or slp headers

I'm trying to decide between the as&m and the slp headers for my 94 z28. I think I would choose the as&m but the slip fit on one of the primaries concerns me. Do they leak? Does the joint deteriorate over time? Any experiences from owners of either would be great. Please include maintenance problems and longevity, thanks.

I have used RK SPort headers a few times. The primary fit never leaked on any of the headers I installed, You do want to use anti-sieze on the slip fit joint, or after time the 1 # one primary tube will not want to come bacK off in the future if you do not use anti-sieze.
I would recommend the Rk Sport headers
SLP headers are ok, but their y-pipe is cheesy. It is a little less expensive though.

I have SLP shorties on my Z. The design is HORRIBLE, but the gain was good. Knocked 3 tenths off ans gave me +3 mph.

Plug access is worse than stock manifolds. I will be going to JH LTs with my new motor

I have had AS&M headers on my car for over 5 years and have not had any problems with them leaking at the primaries. The RK Sport and AS&M designs are very similar. The fit and finish on the AS&Ms is very good but I have never seen the RK Sports up close. The Passenger side goes in from the bottom and the drivers side goes in easiest if you remove the steering shaft. Given a choice I would definitely buy the AS&Ms again.

If you look on the tbyrne site and go to power packages they have the as&m headers with a random tech. high flow cat that matches it. The price isnt that bad either 899.99. The cat alone is like 250 bucks

No leaks here from the AZ headers. Best mid length out there IMHO.

AS&M have, in my opinion, nice products.

Are headers 1 5/8 or 1 3/4? Are they SS or just steal?

Do you need a special Y pipe or can you use your stocker?

Just some ?s to consider.JMHO

Looks like you just joined the forum. Don't know what your plans are for your car but just to let you know, Jethot sells coated longtubes headers for about 500 shipped to your door. I just bought some for my 94z. Pic--> http://community.webshots.com/photo/...71377204vTuHtv

They have them with and without emmision tubes. Cost about $150 to get a y-pipe made at muffler shop. Cheaper than the shorties you are looking at, last longer with the ceramic coating, and more HP.

However, to piggyback the above post, the Long Tubes won't pass a visual inspection due to the fact that the catalytic convertor has to be relocated from its stock position. It may pass the sniffer, but you'll fail for the relocation.

Horrible, I think SLP are by far the best header you can possibly get for our cars, I had longtubes on my 93 & they are a nice product, but as far as shorties go, only SLP IMHO, plus the guy who sold me these headers, he dynoed his car at 412RWHP, it was a consistant 411-412RWHP numbers, he went to Long tubes & Dynoes 412RWHP!!! he ran it 3 times, this is on a 396 with AFR 190's fully ported.

AS&M are sweet. I paided 235.00 for my random cat. Don't wast your time with anything else. If you want the best for your car go with the AS&M and the random cat. Anyone tells you different they just don't want you to be faster then them! Thats a good deal!!!!!

I have the AS&M's, bought them used when they were 3 years old, and off a 97 30th SS that had made 900HP on a blown 383. I've been using them for 3 years now... no leaks, HPC coating is still decent... and pushing 800HP/800ft-lb through them. That's with a modified drivers side collector and a 3" y-pipe with dual 3" CarSound cats.

AS&M's are very high quality, HPC finish is excellent, and the primaries are 1-3/4". Material is carbon steel.

Do you need a special Y pipe or can you use your stocker?
As I recall, you have a 97 SS. AS&M only makes "single-cat" headers, supplied with a y-pipe. They made a "dual-cat" header setup for a while, but they had a huge problem with heat and melting everything in the engine compartment, and they stopped making them.

AS&M's. Expensive, I've heard nothing but great comments on AS&M's.

If I knew about these earlier, I would've bought them instead of my JBA's. JBA's definitely added ooomph to my car big time, added about 10-12hp, AS&M's come with 1-3/4, will give you more initial hp, room for future hp, and they're street legal.

I love my SLP's definetly by far IMO the best headers out there, who can beat Stainless, I love Stainless they can never look bad, plus they are coated.
