thats funny, cause a guy in my town has 5 ZR1's, and they all whomp on Z06's on the highway.

the LT5 engine has more ability to produce power than the LS6.....just the valve area alone is double.

its one of the smoothest running engines assembled, and can withstand serious abuse. (engine testing included running them at 6000 rpm for a period of DAYS).

it also pulls like a **** on the topend. sure its only 405 hp, just like the Z06, but match them up on the highway, and stock for stock, the ZR1 pulls away from the Z06 faster and faster.
I agree with you on the LT5 being a great engine. It is super smooth, and has great top end power.

I'm calling BS on the ZR1 beating a Z06. I've got a friend with an '02 Z06 bone stock down to the paper air filter. Runs 12.50's at ~114.5mph at the track. Several times he's raced a modified 95' ZR1 (tuning, borla exhaust, cold air intake, headers, 4.30 gears, etc..) and beat it. Both at the track and on the highway (on the highway with me in the car also). Both run surprisingly close at the track (one race was the Z06 12.52 @114.3, ZR1 12.61@113.2).

A stock ZR1 or even lightly modified ZR1 isn't going to pull away from a Z06.

Thats my 2 dollars worth.

ok,here are some fitment issues....... Gotta make headers to fit the confines that will be there if the LT5 drops between the fenders, doubt the stock vette manifolds work with the Fbody frame and shock towers.fuel system,Brake booster/abs could possibly be in the way. Cooling system will have to be modified,PCM and guages etc will have to be sorted out. Also might have ac/heater box interference on the pass side.

Will it clear a stock hood? what about the air induction side? And the transmission as stated above.

food for thought

I've seen a pic of a TT GN engine in progress, in a Camaro.

Reasonably quick, but he should be alot faster if he has a nice powerband, 550 RWHP should get him low to mid 10s by itself with no nitrous.

I think the LT5 is a taller motor no?

Damn...you guys beat me to the pushrod comment.

If I had $$ I would do a 383 LT5...no forced induction...no juice.

Fabricating the headers would be fun.

LOOK at his MPH.......140+.......those passes are on STREET tires.......stock suspension

guys that run 10sec 1/4 with 550rwhp have drag suspensions and drag tires, and usually trap upper 120-130.

Ok, thats better Why someone buys a Vette to drag race in though I dont know Once you hit 9s pretty much any organization will band the IRS, besides wanting an NHRA license and other tech stuff, big cage, fire system, yada yada.

Just wait till he decides he wants new cams $$$$ and some headwork $$$$.

The Vettes also have a master computer, which interfaces with the PCM, so without an aftermarket computer solution I dont see how its going to run, which adds yet more money to the picture.

LT5 all the way, no question about it. If you go on corvetteforum.com and talk to the guys that have had both the z06 and the zr-1 they say that the z06 will win in the 1/4 but after that, the zr-1 will pull a z06 after about 125 or so. Also they of those ythat have had both said that they would take another zr-1 over a z06.
