In that case buy it for 3000$ then turn around and sell it for atleast 15000$ and use the money to build yourself one hell of an engine.

Did you actually take a look at this engine and see for yourself that its an LT5. It should have "4 cam 32 valve" etched on the intake manifold and plug wires that go in through the valve covers. Maybe this dude knows its not a ZR1 motors and is just trying to sell it to you.

Also, after you cut and reshape your engine bay, pay thousands of dollars getting it rebuilt with low compression pistons and trying to put this engine in your car which is considerably wider than the LT1, getting a custom exhaust made, you want to put a supercharger on

You'd be better off sellling your camaro and buying a Corvette to put the engine in

You may end up with tranny problems too, something to think about. The lt5 uses the zf6 not the t56. I am not sure if they are compatible.

Judging by the fact that he says there's no badging on the vette its probably a '96 LT4 Collectors Ed. (unbadged, and only come in manuals)

Buy it for 3k, put it on eBay, and buy an LS1 if you want easy 405 HP for less money, and a lighter engine with less hassles.

The LT5 was a great engine for 15 years ago, but times change. 15 years ago the average car was a goat with a bad attitude and shaky legs.

If you REALLY want it, do it, but IMO it would be a status symbol and thats about as great as being a ricer

I've been wanting to attempt this project myself for quite sometime now. For me...it's not about the horsepower, I'm currently making a lot more horsepower with my LT4 than the LT5...it's all about the WOW factor baby....YEAH!

Wow, that was a great engine for 15 years ago, its so huge I bet it weighs 650 pounds? WOW!

There is a local guy with a ZR1 and its down on power somewhat, leaks oil, and has some minor issues, I think he said 305 RWHP but I can't recall for sure.

have you ever even ridden in a properly maintained ZR1?

its one of the smoothest running engines assembled, and can withstand serious abuse. (engine testing included running them at 6000 rpm for a period of DAYS).

it also pulls like a **** on the topend. sure its only 405 hp, just like the Z06, but match them up on the highway, and stock for stock, the ZR1 pulls away from the Z06 faster and faster.

a guy i know has an amazing red ZR1 with the typical engine work........puts down ~550 rwhp, then sprays a 150shot.......mid 10s at 140+.

If i can get that engine off him for 3000 im doing it !
What's wrong with this ZR1 Corvette that the guy wants to give away an LT5 engine for $3000??? Was the car totalled or something? And even if the car was totalled anyone who owns a ZR1 has to have some clue as to how much an LT5 is worth. Even if the motor needed a rebuild I bet it's still worth more than $3K. Something sounds very strange about this story to me

Obviously you havent seen them run. But a ZO6 will take a ZR1 up to 173 when it hits rev limiter. The only reason a ZR1 tops out higher is the gearing. Sorry bud but the ZO6 is on top of the ZR1 in all categories except price.
