LT5 Swap

Hey guys, im thinking about swapping my LT1 out with an LT5 (ZR1) engine as soon as my LT1 goes for good. LT5 is All aluminum block, head and pistons and is DOHC. The engines stock rating is 405 HP, i of course plan to put low Comp Forged Pistons along with heavy duty Push rods, Rocker arms etc. because im throwing a Pro Charger on it ASAP.

Tell me what you think, any problems with this ?

Hope you have PLENTY of cash to blow. LT5s are EXTREMELY rare and even moreso expensive. Expect at the very least $10,000 for the engine alone (used, higher mileage, new LT5s go for around $25,000), not to mention the host of fitment problems you're going to have. The LT5 is MUCH wider than the LT1, so having plenty of $$$ on standby to buy you through the issues is going to be necessary.

DEFINITELY not worth the cost, aggravation, and pain. Leave the LT5 to the ZR1 guys. For the same cost, you could run 10s easily, and have twice the horsepower.

I don't know much about that engine... but since it's a DOHC, it wouldn't have pushrods, would it?

Don't take this the wrong way but you obviously have no idea what the ZR1 motor is or whats involved in swapping one. You could buy the most expesive LT1 crate motor and put in your car with up to 1000hp and still not spend as much swapping in the ZR1. You don't juts take and LT1 out and put in the LT5. It would actually be cheaper to buy a ZR1 corvette

BTW, good luck with finding pushrods for a DOHC motor

I would buy the engine and sell it to make some serious cash! Then use the money for the LT1, but that is my opinion, this just isn't something you'd want to try yourself in my opinion.

If you can buy an LT5 ZR1 Corvette for $3000, you could make some $$$ selling the parts (even if it is just the engine). You do know that it will take some serious modifications and fabrication to make it fit in the engine bay, right? Doubtful that it will fit between the shock towers (much like a BBC won't). You are going to need someone well qualified (meaning more $$) to do that work.

It should be obvious in about a half a second if it is an LT5.

If thats so then i may take up your idea and try to get some major cash. I just got the idea of the swap today when i talked to the guy. His brother owns like 4 camaros and i was going to see if i could get parts off of him. Thats when he told me about the LT5.
