LT4 timing chain, how strong?

If you were upgrading your timing chain on your LT1 OEM motor, and were only going to turn 6400rpm occasionally, would a OEM LT4 timing chian and gears be good enough.
I may be coming across one for free, and due to family life, it may be a viable option. ALso, I cant use a electric water pump due to my engine compartment and suspension mods, so I need to use mechanical pump and OEM style chains, ie LT1/LT4 or ED if cheap.

From your username I'm guessing you have a 93 Vette. If so you will need the later optispark and all that goes with it to use an LT4 chain.

LT4 should work fine as long as its not loose. I didnt know that you need a vented opti to run an LT4 chain.

Just wondering why you cant run an electric pump. Thats the way I would go, but maybe there is something I am missing.

Are you talking about the LT4 chain, not the LT4 extreme duty?? Is there even a difference? I'll be using the LT4 extreme duty chain on my car, and it's going to see some high RPM/fairly stout valvetrain- I sure hope it's up to the task!

I use the LT4 ED in my 7,400rpm 800HP solid roller 381. A buddy of mine used the LT4 ED set in his 1,125HP 8,000rpm 383 w/ 20+# of Vortech boost, 30th SS convertible. I think its fair to say the LT4 ED set is strong.

I've actually "lightened" the cam sprocket, because it seems excessively heavy:

Re: LT4 timing chain, how strong?

I have a 96 motor in my Vette. I am getting the ED chain, and was looking at reliability issues now, as I read a few guys had messed up there gears on the back of the Big sprocket and WP gear.
