LT4 Starter ?

I have a couple of questions about the LT4 Starter. First, Auto Zone has one made by Duralast, is it the same as the GM one? As far as being stronger than the LT1 version. Second, is it the design the same because I have AS&M headers and from what I've read here, it's a close fit. Thanks.

By the way it's $118 there if anyone wanted to know. That's pretty good.

There is no such thing as good "cheap" electrical parts. That starter from AZ does not come from the same source as the GM starter. You may find someone who has a part from them that functions but by and large, you will get stuck with something that craps out and leaves you stranded.

The fact that it has a "lifetime" warranty is not worth the paper it's printed on. Is it worth it to be on your back on your driveway replacing it every xxx months?

I have used this one from summit for years now.

I believe it is made by powermaster for them. A few more dollars but worth the piece of mind.
High quality piece. Easy to intall and use original wires.

Re: LT4 Starter ?

I have heard many people, even people who work at Autozone say that the Duralast line of parts is crap. My brother works at a tire shop, and they will not order replacement parts from Autozone because of this.

I got my LT4 starter from Jason Cromer, it was $140-$150 I believe. It fits great with the Hooker long tubes I have, but after looking at the fit I wouldn't have felt comfortable putting it on with my SLP single cat style headers (within centimeters of a primary). It might save 5-7 pounds over the stock starter.

My advice would be to get the GM starter (or one from Summit that has been suggested), and PM some people with the AS&M headers like you have and LT4 starter to see what they think about the fit.

That's some really good info! It answered my question to the tee. About that mini starter, Does it have more starting torque than a stock OEM part? That's probably a question for summit though. Thanks for the help!

I had figured that the Duralast part although OEM spec, was built on the cheap side. That's a good point about getting ahold of some people with the same set up. I'm sure that the starter that Speedy talked about is much better than the AZ starter and since it will probably fit better, I'll reaearch it some more but the Procharger is looking pretty good. Thanks for the help too!
