Exclamation lt4 standard cam question

the lift on the lt4 standard cam is .476/.479 is that @ 1.6:1, or 1.5:1.. I have my engine opti out and intake manifold off along with rockers (during 1.7 conversion) my friend will give me a lt4 standard cam for free.. just wondering if thats the lift with 1.5, if not then if its the 1.6 lift max lift with 1.7s would be around .505/.510 which would be in the perfect flow range for the stock heads which flow peak around there.... thus i should make decent power and nice torque.

Re: lt4 standard cam question

Those numbers are with 1.6 rockers, since production LT4 engines came with 1.6 rockers, not 1.5s. Specs for the production LT4 cam:

I203/E210 I.476"/E.479" 115LS.

You may have misunderstood. The .476"/.479" numbers are WITH 1.6 rockers. Not the .505"/.510" like you had hoped...

yes it will be .505/.508.... i divided by 1.6 then multi by 1.7 got the numbers... i know what u ment it being 1.6 #s the 1.5 # are like .44x. should also put out a lil more power and torque...

Re: lt4 standard cam question

Ah...then I read wrong. I didn't see that you had intended on using 1.7 rockers. Kudos.

Re: lt4 standard cam question

Honestly I put a ZZ3 cam in my Caprice and it is asumed stock by everyone I do not specifically tell it is changed, and that is bigger than the production LT4 cam, after doing the swap and driving it for a year I would say that even in a b-body which comes with a smaller than f-body cam the ZZ3 is the absolute smallest cam worth the effort. Even if LT4 cam is free I would recommend a ZZ3 or 227(210/224 crane) both will make more power than the LT4 and are still mistakable for stock. The 227 has made some wickedly fast cars too both b and f-body.

Re: lt4 standard cam question

where can i get a zz3 cam, and what are the specs on it... i got a 224/236 i bought but i dont wanna use it so im not going to. Also is the zz3 the same as the zz4 because my friend had a zz4 cam in his hsr motor and that thing loped... im not looking for a lopey idle thats why im not using the xe224/236.

Re: lt4 standard cam question

The ZZ3 cam is a readily available GM performance parts piece pn 10185071 , think gmpartsdirect(good for looking stuff up not for buying) lists it at $165 and it needs a small amount of machining($20) so the opti fits right. Specs are 208/214 .474/.510 with 1.5s on a 112. Thing is so well mannered that I used to tow a small boat with it backed by a 1650 stall and 2.93s outback also keep in mind my car is about 4200 without me. Even then it was stock mannered till I get on it then it pulls more in the midrange and to a higher rpm than the stock cam did. I do plan on swapping it out but not till winter. If you want I could posted a wanted for you on the b-body board, obviously a mild cam like this is more popular over there. Desktop Dyno says about 360/360 for this thing if the rest of the car is in order you know good intake and exhaust, I would guess your SLPs are shorties so I don't see you getting the full 360 but you get the idea.

I am running a very basic intake(involves 3" pvc and cutting a hole in the airfilter box) with the stock small b-body MAF, stock exhaust manifolds, 87 octane mailorder tuning and have a heavy drivetrain and still put down 260 to the tires, which should be 320 or so flywheel. You have better intake and exhaust and a lighter drivetrain so your results will be better.

Don't bother with the stock LT4 cam, it won't be worth it and you will probably see ZERO gains.

Stock LT1: 205/207 477I/490E w/1.6

Stock LT4: 203/210 476I/479E w/1.6

LT4Hotcam: 218/228 525I/525E w/1.6

If you are going to go through the effort of doing a cam, at the very least I'd go with a Hotcam.
