LT4 Questions
LT4 Questions
I'm sure all of my questions have been answeresd before, so I will keep it short and to the point. Where can I get an LT4 cam kit, and what are the numbers on it? Will it come with RR's? If not, where do I get those? What is the best way to tune an LT1 from a laptop? Which program...LT1 edit, C.A.T.S., etc.? When I buy my Hooker LT's do I get the O2 sensors already welded in, or do I just get the headers without them?
I'm getting ready to drop some cash, so the more info I get from you guys, the better end product I get. So, give me all you got!
Thanks fellas!

This should answer some of your questions.
You can probably get the whole kit cheaper from:
Jason Cromer: 850-243-8826 (Direct Parts Dept. Line)
email: gmparts@samtaylor.com

The LT4 Hotcam kit can be obtained from any Chevy dealer, but for the best price, check with Jason Cromer or one of the supporting advertisers. The numbers? You mean power gains? Or part number? Please specify.
Yes, the kit includes 1.6 ratio rockers. Tuning is a pretty complicated task. It's best to take your car to a shop that has a dyno and experienced tuners, and all of the sensor hookups to tune EFI properly. LT1Edit or TunerCAT can be used.
There are no O2 sensors in headers themselves. They are in the piping that follows. Depending on what you want to do and what year your car is, etc, you may need extensions/simulators/etc.
Providing more info will allow for more detailed advice.

For the Hooker LT's, you will need to have O2 sensor "bungs" (not the sensor, just the piece that it screws into) welded into the collector on each header. You want the O2's as close to the engine as you can get them, and the collector is that point.
I am also looking at doing the hotcam kit over the winter....what I was wondering though is what else I should do while I have everything apart? Seals? Waterpump? Timing Chain/Gear?
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Tuning- Tunercat
LT's- Have the bungs welded in.
NewbieWar....I wouldn't suggest getting everything BUT the cam. Those springs are barely adequate for the cam itself. Look in the for sale section and try to find some rr's and a different cam if you want something else. You should be able to find something.
Also....if you're going with any other cam besides the Hotcam, I'd suggest different springs. I was getting some serious float when I had the Hotcam and the springs that came with the kit.

Not that I know of. I'd figure out which cam you want and then buy the springs that will support that cam.
I wouldn't suggest getting LT4 heads/intake just yet. You're better off getting your stock heads P&P'd and get other supporting mods. But being in Cali without a hookup on the sniffer, you aren't in the best position to do too much.

why would i want to port and polish my current heads if i were going to replace them?

IMO there's really no reason to get some LT4 castings unless you have the need to have heads that flow what they have the potential to flow.
