So..whats with everyone having one..whats so much better about it than my LT1 KM in my PCM now? Does it actually do any good? Is this something you can literally just replace with the stock one without reprogramming anything? What exactly does it do? Thanks guys
Is it worth getting one based on my mods? (list below)

 

The knock modual is for picking up detonation and tells the pcm to retard timing. Most people get it because the lt1 Km is less precise at picking up real detonation and would take the excess noise from the headers they have installed as detonation and retard timing causing powerloss. If you get headers you need one. Hope this helps

 

headers are my next major purchase..you'd think with all my mods, I'd have headers! But it wasnt in the budget when my Z was being built up I think 3k was enough to start..Would it do me any good to put an LT4-KM in now before I get headers...and do you have to 'reprogram' anything or does the PCM pick it up on its own..thinking its basically the original LT1-KM? I know they arent expensive..pretty much I've seen used ones under $20-30 on here..and I cant imagine why you'd buy it new..it's not like it can really 'go bad' I dont think..

I wouldn't think that you would have anything to gain by getting one unless you just want to get that part out of the way for the header install. I bought mine new from Jason Cromer. He has great deals on GM parts. I think I payed around $30 for mine.Allthough I also had it over nighted from florida so in all it cost me $70 but I needed it the next day. The part was designed for the C4 vette I believe, because they were using aluminum RR wich create more valvetrain noise. No programing is needed just plug it in and go. Can't hurt to get one. Edit took a better look at your sign yeah I would get one might help hard to tell though

 

Wow as soon as you get headers on. It will be like night and day. I was in the same boat as you (3,000 to spend on mods) but I only was able to spend 1,000 of it on my car Seems like every time I get some good money saved up , something comes up. Sometimes I think that I am not ment have more POWER !!!! Oh well , looks like you have a good mod list started. GET HEADERS MAN I got pacesetters for pretty cheap. like $400 coated.

 

oh trust me..I know how you feel when it comes to money..when you need it..its not there...and when it is there..'unexpected' things just happen to come up! I actually just got laid off, so for the last month, I've been negative in my account, down two months rent (@ $760/mo just for rent!) and thats on top of all my utilities and other bills. The camaro has been having a stumble problem for months now..no money to fix it except with my own free knowledge..and I have to sell my truck to catch up on rent (which I'm actually supposed to sell today ..its just a Pathfinder..but hey, its' AWSOME in the snow). Im only gonna have my Z for now..and with winter around the corner..I dont wanna drive her..Ive never driven my 94 in the snow (mainly because she sits in the garage for even rain ..I baby her)
Anyways..I will get headers next. After of course new rear tires (which seem to wear down faster than fronts?? wierd huh)

i noticed a big difference over stock. felt like more pulling power just driving around town...i only have borla cat back on and it doesnt affect me Go ahead and order it. Installation is two bolts to get the pcm out, and two screws to open the door on the pcm.Then plug and play from there

 

The LT4 KM is the subject of much discussion. A search should have told you more than you ever wanted to know.

I did a search..but when you search..I dont think you can add a '+' sign to make sure it connects words..can you? I put in LT4 KM and it comes up with all kinds of stuff..unneeded info...everything about LT4s and anything with KM in it. Just seems easier to post it than search 20+ pages..then again maybe you can just add the +..I'll try it
-So if I were to get one..can't I just buy one used? Its not like it can really 'go bad' can it? Waste of money buying new if you can buy used half or less the cost.
