Zip-tied it closed and tight. From the screw end, I got some wire and bolted it down and grounded it where my sway bar attached. Then, I zip-tied the rig up to a wiring harness above my Kmember. I pulled the plug from the knock sensor on the block and plug it to my new sensor. PRESTO! You'll know something's not right if you crank it and throw an SES light and your fans come on. It's a simple mod and did a world of difference in my car. It's worth a shot, especially if you have a spare knock sensor!!
Well that is just amazing, and you said it gives open timing no matter?

Well, I can't say its going to never pick up any knock under any condition. I'm gonna put it on my friend's laptop and do some WOT runs and some standard driving runs to check the readings. I do know that I went from 9.0 1/8th to 8.7 1/8th...there was also a .1 tenth better 60' in that .3 tenths gain that was not attributed to the bypass.

Like I said...it's worth a shot, doesn't take long...and it's FREE if you have a spare knock sensor, if not...it's still cheap. And, it's definitely got a SOTP noticeability, at least it did in my car!

I think it would be worth a shot just for racing purposes if you are getting falst knock, it does take you away from the safe zone a little, but just to try it out once it can't hurt, its a simple enough install so if you don't like it you can always unrig it shouldn't be to much of a PITA...

The good thing is, if you want it for race purpose, it's as simple as plugging in the dummy. YOu still have the stocker in the block and can simply plug it back in once you are daily driving. That simple...plug to play...plug to drive normal.

Okay, but you had a guy asking about installing an LT4 KM and you told him to do this knock sensor bypass thing. Now you're saying that you plug your connector in to the knock sensor located in the block for normal driving--which hasn't solved anything because you're back to picking up false knock.

Do yourself a favor Jer4251 and drop the $36 and do it the correct way.

I really wouldn't feel comfortable bypassing the knock sensor completely All it takes is a little bad gas, and you could be rebuilding the motor!! I'm going with the LT4 KM, it's cheap enough.

Thumbs up

Good deal. People all have their opinions. Me...I want open timing. I've put bad gas in my car before I knew any better. But...I kind of watch where I pump my gas and generally use 95oct; 93 Amoco when I'm not around the Sunoco pump.

As we can see; there are options out there. Me...I'm not worried about any knock in my car...with 163K miles, if my motor starts knockin...well, it's on its way out the door...just means I'm that much closer to the rebuild that I already know is somewhere around the bend.

Got $40 lying around? Buy the KM.
Broke as hell, like me...and don't mind plugging your stock module back up occasionally to check for true knock since your car isnt' a NASCAR and you don't race it all day long everyday...do the by pass.
Gonna worry everytime you go over a bump in the road...buy the KM.

This topic is tired...I'm outta here.
