Lt4 Km

i dont know anything about the KM in my car. i have a 97 ss, i know its not a LT4. What i want to know is where is it located at? how hard is it to change, and how much does a LT4 KN cost? are there any other aftermarket ones?

Its in the PCM housing. $33 is the going rate. 10 min swap LT1 out and LT4 in. There are no aftermarket ones to my knowledge or any need for an aftermarket KM.

I just did the Knock Sensor bypass. Get another KM (that works), wrap it in foam or something nice and cushy, zip tie it up around the Kmember and remove the plug from Knock sensor on block (DO NOT REMOVE THE SENSOR) and plug it in. Make sure to ground the new sensor and you'll be set with open timing. My car loves it...and I didn't have to wait around for a KM to come in the mail.

Just put the LT4 Knock Module in my PCM this weekend. 2 bolts to remove the PCM and 2 screws to get to the KM. Here's a link with a picture for your viewing pleasure:

LT1derful is referring to the Knock Sensor--not the Knock Module. I think it's worthwhile to buy the LT4 KM.

Anyone want to explain why we would want to change the KM to an LT4 one?

Thanks!

That's correct...I'm bypassing the knock sensor...and, I'll keep it that way. No LT4KM for me anytime soon!

Say what?? man open timing meaning you don't have to worry about any knock retard? can you explain this in greater detail about this install? I have the LT4 KM, I know I am not getting bad gas, but I am still getting some Knock up around 5K which is right in my power band...

Less prone to pick up false knock and pull timing due to headers, roller rockers, exhaust, etc.

If you could hear my exhaust...you'd be like WTF!?!? My stuff's LOUD, a little TOO for me. So, yea...this will help you out and the header noise shouldn't be a problem. The Knock Sensor is under the middle primaries on passenger side of block. You can usually see it if you look up from the rear of the K member. Pretty easy to spot...think it has a blue wire.

The LT4 KM helps prevent picking up false knock.

Basically I got a stock Knock Sensor from my friend's 94 Z (check part #s...a 96 would not work on mine). I wrapped it in foam, kind of reminded me of a handlebar pad from a Huffy bike. Zip-tied it closed and tight. From the screw end, I got some wire and bolted it down and grounded it where my sway bar attached. Then, I zip-tied the rig up to a wiring harness above my Kmember. I pulled the plug from the knock sensor on the block and plug it to my new sensor. PRESTO! You'll know something's not right if you crank it and throw an SES light and your fans come on. It's a simple mod and did a world of difference in my car. It's worth a shot, especially if you have a spare knock sensor!!
