LT4 hotcam slowed down 1st gear?

Just put the lt-4 hotcam in and had my heads ported. When I get on it 1st gear seems a little sluggish then before the mods. I havent had my PCM tuned yet, but wouldnt I expect to have a more powerfull 1st gear? Or is it more midrange I should expect?

M6 or A4, and what gears do you have? Mine has the hotcamkit, stock heads, PCM forless & 3.89 gears. From a roll in 1st gear at 2500rpm or higher mine will fry the tires if I nail it, 2nd gear comes up real quick thats on 275/40/18 f1 tires. The hotcam isnt real strong in the low end, it is a much better midrange and up cam. I'd suggest you get PCMforless to program it for the cam. I'd bet I picked up 15-20rwhp maybe more with his hotcam program over the base tune.

Who did your PCM? And how did it run before getting the pcm done?

Still running the stock TQ? Changing that up will help the 1st gear. First gear for mine is a waste if I stomp on it.

I got the Hotcam(pro mag 1.6 rr) and ported heads...and will obliterate my tires from a stop.

I have the Vigilante 2800 and stock 2.73 gears.

Most likely, you need a stall...like the Vigi 2800 or larger. It will flash your engine right into your power band...and you will be going sideways in no time. The Hotcam moves the power range up in the rpm's compared to stock.

As I mentioned, PCMforless. I really didnt run it much or get into it with the cam before the tuning. I drove for a couple of days and was taking it easy breaking it in. I didnt really get on it until after I got the tuning to be safe. Bryan (PCMforless) told me that he can get 20rwhp with his tuning, after running it and dynoing it I didnt doubt him.

It could have some to do with the tuning. But if it is an A4 without a stall converter, that is most likely the cause of it.

I also have a tune from pcmforless and would recommend him for when you get a tune.

Did you change your stall? Hows your idle now. Does the oil pressure look ok? Lots of questions, I know but my car is running like crap right now. I had the stall conv. changed with my new tranny rebuild, but i think he just ordered the same stock one!

Re: LT4 hotcam slowed down 1st gear?

My car idles fine. I had a SLP stall when I first installed the hot cam and it had pretty good power on takeoff but it is a whole different feeling car with the Vigilante. My oil pressure is the same as before.

Get a 2800 stall vigilante and you will be satisfied with the car. I am going to have my converter restalled down to a 2800, because of the obd1 high stall problem.
