Questions about puting an LT1 in my blazer

I own an 88 s-10 blazer. I want to drop in a fuel injected v8. So I was thinking of either a LT1 or a TPI. I still have to pass emissions. So with all that said I got some questions. What years were the best years for an LT1? How much power did they produce stock? A few other sites haven't answerd all my questions. So I hope you can help. Can I get a regular 350 short block and put on some LT1 heads and intake and install a LT4 hot cam? And what do I do about the distributer? I am still confused on what an LT1 uses. Is it in the back like all the other cars? I am thinking of justing buying a complete car with an LT1 and swaping all the computer, engine, harness, and trans into the blazer.

Don't have a lot of time to make a complete response, but to get you started:

LT1's use reverse cooling, so you can't just slap LT1 heads on a regular SBC.

LT1's use a doohicky called an opti-spark in place of a regular distributor. It's located in the front of the engine under the water pump.

Great link

Great forum

Hope that gets you started.
