lt4 hot cam install question
lt4 hot cam install question
Hey all, im going to be throwing an lt4 hot cam in my lt1 next weekend, im wondering if the length of the pushrods is going to change, or if i can re use my stock ones? I will be buying a set of roller rockers soon, but theres a good chance i wont have them when i put in the cam, so i will be re using the stock solid rocker arms for now.
Thanks for any help!

Pushrods should not be an issue, if you are not touching the heads. The stock rockers might not be so fond of the increased lift, though. You should very seriously think of changing the valve springs before doing the 1.6 rockers that the HOT cam setup normally uses. My preference would be to do it all at the same time or either do the valvetrain upgrade before the cam-not the cam before everything else.
Thanks Shoebox, I really appreciate the help, i will go that route then. Im hoping to find a decent set of used 1.6's. I think iv found them, i'v just got to get them paid for and shipped (this week hopefully). Also, thanks for the kick a$$ website, i have used the diagrams and tech write ups more times than i can count on my fingers and toes! Your web site rocks!

I had the Hot Cam kit with stock pushrods for a couple of years with no problems. Good kit for the money.
It really depends on what else you have done to the car, its a good cam its just not a radical upgrade its positively a big step up from the original cam tho. rough estimate is 20 -25 hp or somewhere around there.
A looong time ago (1998ish), I put a LT4 hotcam in my old 95 Z and that was the only thing I changed. Granted the weather changed a little bit but I went from a consistent 13.99-14.02 to a 13.63-13.69. I have no clue where the time slips from then are but I do still have them.
And I agree, don't just throw this cam in and run your stock springs/rockers. At a bare minimum use lt4 springs, and install some roller rockers. If someone is going to use this cam I can't see why they wouldn't just buy the HC kit.
A lot of people will recommend upgrading the lt4 springs which is a very good idea.
I overreved mine on a missed shift years ago and ended up with two wrecked lifters and cam due to the lt4 springs.
