lt4 heads/intake worth it?

hey, i was planning on porting my lt1 heads/intake this winter but i'm wondering if i should go bigger
right now, i'm just gonna port the heads and intake, and throw a custom cam in (after seeing how well the heads flow)
how much more power do you think i'd make if i went to lt4 heads/intake with a custom cam?

this is just going on a stock bottom end right now
not sure if i'll go stroke or bore it in a couple years or not
and i'm trying not to spin above 6500
so basically, would i gain flow everywhere on the charts, like even at low lift? i don't want all my increased power way up in the rpm range

i guess that's all the questions i have right now
thanks in advance

Your money would be better spent on getting your own heads ported. The stock LT4 is an improvement over the stock LT1 but shoot, they cost about 1400 don't they? I would say get a LE2 package for about the same money and you will be better off. Also get something that works with your current bottom end. When you upgrade to a stroker you can put in a bigger cam and have the heads touched up if you want.

The only way I would consider the LT4s is if you were looking too port them when and if you do a stroker and want it too be a serious motor. For now though it reallu looks like ported stockers a money better spent, they will be cheaper and flow more than stock LT4s.

well no
i meant like porting the lt4 heads/intake rather than the lt1 heads/intake
basically, i'd be homeporting (after practicing on some bad heads of course)
i just wanted to know if the heads/intake were worth the money AFTER i port them and suit a custom cam to them
thanks

Re: lt4 heads/intake worth it?

if you're just going to buy the LT4 heads to port them why not just buy some AFR ported LT4 heads and find an intake to match port?

Re: lt4 heads/intake worth it?

how much are the afr's?
i really wanted to see what i could do with the heads and i wanted to keep my rpm range somewhat down (as in still making good power down low)

The good afr lt4 are like 2400, and a set of proffesionaly ported lt4 that flow similar will probably be cheeper if you started with bare castings. IMO yo don't need anything flowing more than 275 cfm for a stock dispacement motor operating at or lower than 6500 rpm, and that is doable with lt1s.

that is the answer i was looking for
thank you

looks like i'll just pick up a junk lt1 head or 2 and practice porting on them
thanks again to everybody for the replies
