Re: lt4 conversion or supercharger?

what other head/cam/intake packages are out there? i was just looking at the the lt4 conversion because it comes with everything expect for a bigger throttle body... i dont wanna do a bunch of cheaper parts and then end up paying more for all the shipping. id like to buy from one or two places only... any good websites so i can do some thinking?

Re: lt4 conversion or supercharger?

Been there, done both.....The LT4 setup is a lot cheaper overall....But i got 325 RWHP and the same in torque.
Bear in mind, i was one of these people that spun a bearing right after a heads\cam install, ended up costing a LOT more than 2500 bucks..
The blower....I push 7 psi intercooled (still chasing my 1-2 psi loss) through LT1 heads, (ported with stock valve sizes) forged pistons and rods, a SCAT nodular iron crank with ARP studded 2 bolt mains, computer balanced, of course! .... and i make 455 RWHP, 447 RWTQ on pump gas....
Used ATI system, and a properly setup shortblock and heads\valvetrain work....7500 bucks!
...but i get 25 mpg, as proven on my 1600 mile roadtrip. It idles pretty smoothly....except for the "whine"...
So it's all about the money......I'm glad i did it though, no big cam and high rpm's....Smooth car, i drive my kids around in it, no wheels, nothing to give it away....

Re: lt4 conversion or supercharger?

i wouldnt go for the whole Lt4 motor. they only produced something like 330 horses at the crank. the the aftermarket kit would give you more power. it would be nice to find a LT5 with 405hp. but chances are youll never even see one. and i dont know how easy it would be to find parts for the LT5.

bank for the buck on motor stuff, get a set of good heads-cam. guys on here will give good leads on whats good....

Re: lt4 conversion or supercharger?

I'd go with the Lloyd Elliot Heads/Cam swap over an LT4 swap.
My friend put down 370 something rwhp with his LE2 package. Should put down a little over 400 when he swaps to longtubes since his current headers are choking the motor.

Just do a search for Lloyd Elliot on this board.
He's had a lot of satisfied customers on here.

The LT4 was underrated. They generally dynoed between 350-380.
