Lt1 weak? What's your power like?

So I have a 94 z28 m6 and I thought I read somewhere that most of you guys could chip the tires while accelerating? I know my car with almost bald tires comes no where close to doing that. I know I prb need new plugs and wires because I get this slight shutter/stumble. I know it is not fuel been there fixed that and rechecked many times.

Rather than gauge the engine's performance by its ability to chirp the tires, take it to the track and see what it runs. Then you will know exactly how well its running.

That'd be like a 2 hour drive almost. Yes, I need to though.

before you take it to the track make sure it is running perfectly
no stumbles no hesitation, almost violent acceleration in 1st and 2nd, and smoothe everywhere else

did you change the fuel filter? my first vote is to check the plugs/wires but you already know that.

i dunno ive owned 2 lt1s, and both cars when stock seemed to run very strong. the first was an automatic and it would easily chirp/spin a little in second gear. my current car is an m6 and right from the get go i could spin the tires into 3rd.

as said though, fuel filter, air filter,plugs/wires should definitly be done right away.

an old article in gm high tech, they gained something like 30 hp just by updating the fuel system on a basically stock car. filter/injectors255lph pump

How many miles and was anything changed like the opti, 02 sensor or filters? The type of tires matters somewhat but you should be able to roast them with anything short of slicks.

Ok so ya I did two fuel filters when I did two pumps. The first pump was a walbro and it went out in two months. So this time I went with a stock acdelco. It ran better than ever with that pump. The car has 164000 miles idk but the opti is prb that old. I did have some problems with that because I got a leak in my heater line and it was spraying all over the opti so I fixed the hose and the opti dried out but still could be shot. Idk bout o2 sensors but I want to change them. I can't remember what brand to get. I think I heard bosch sucks on these cars?? I want to get new wires but I didnt really want to do all of that because I really want headers and then I'd go OTVC wires so then I'd have to buy new wires, cut to length.. After doing research though I think I'd spend about a grand on headers and everything to go with and I have only 600ish..so idk. I have also been looking around for a used slp intake which I have found a few, because I really like the look even though it is made of metal.

take it from experience, mods don't do you any good if it still isn't running right. if its hesitating, something is wrong, and if you don't fix it you'll never know what your getting out of whatever mods you do. if i was you, i'd definately do plugs and wires. if anything, it'll be a nice learning experience as to how the human body has to bend to do some things. if your really that worried about getting headers, save some more money and do the plugs, wires, headers, and o2's at the same time. the opti is a little out of the way, but while you have it apart it might be a good idea to go ahead and do it too

If the plugs and wires don't work check your catalytic converter, the insides of mine broke up and became lodged in the pipe obviously causing a major restrictionion consequently my car was pretty slow. It would start and run fine and even rev with no problem but once a load was put on it the car would stutter an stumble. Good luck

My opti had just over 100K miles and when I took it apart it looked like it was time for a replacement. I assume yours is way worse so if you do the opti and 02's you might solve some of your problems.

when stock, it felt pretty strong, particularly low end, much moreso now of course. I could light the tires up and fishtail from a low mph roll easily on crap tires in stock trim, sometimes from a stop.

I thought my GF's 03 Mach 1 was going to feel a bit quicker when she bought it recently, my car at least feels like it would murder that car.

Keep up with the maintenance, if it doesn't feel strong, it should.
