LT1 water pump... short of long style?
LT1 water pump... short of long style?
Hey guys,
I'm going to be running a remote electric water pump on my LT1. Because of this, I need to figure out whether I need a short-style alternator bracket or a long-pump style. Anyone have a clue which style bracket I would need?
My application is somewhat unconventional. Front-style motor mounts with the only belt-driven accessory being an alternator. Due to room constraints, I need to run the alternator up high near the throttle body. I just don't know whether the belt alignment is short-style or long-style.
thanks for your help.

The LT1 has no short or long style and the water pump is not belt driven, so it's a little hard to come up with a positive answer.
RamAir95TA,
I have had block plates made so I can dual-feed the block. I'm going to be selling them, as well. It's actually a pretty simple setup. It does require a remote thermostat, though. The setup is pricey...about $800 all-in.
shoebox,
I've used your site numerous times. If you want, I'll send you a write-up on how I did this. I guess I'll hit Pick-A-Part and yank an alternator bracket off an 80s Camaro so I can see if it's long or short and then go from there.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, they do. I'm using a dual-outlet Meziere 55gph electric water pump. I am dual-feeding the block and then the coolant leaves each side and joins in a remote thermostat housing. From there, I have a single 1.5" conventional hose into my radiator.
I had to run this setup because I can't run standard small block engine mounts in my application. I am using front engine mounts that prevent me from using the serpentine system. If you're interested, it's the Hooker V8 Vega kit.
