Lt1 vs. Ls1

Is one of these engines easier to work on than the other? i.e. routine maintenence and mods.

I bought my car from my friend who is a Chevrolet mechanic. He says the LT1 is much easier to work with. He port and polished my heads and did a 5 angle valve job on it. I know it's not the fastest Z but I have not lost to a LS1 as of yet.

well considering your on the lt1 board....
the lt1's are from a little older year, making insurance that much less to deal with., u can get an lt1 to be pretty damn quick.
i think lt1 blocks are stronger., so that means they can take more than the aluminum blocks right?

I heard the same thing about the blocks. Stronger!

$ not being an issue, you're shorting yourself if you start with an LTx series engine - that's obvious.

What else is obvious however.. is that $ is always an issue . FWIW, I don't think you'll be at a great disadvantage with an LT1 car considering the $ saved... though I've seen some LS1 rides going at some attractive prices lately.

IMO, it comes down to figuring out a realistic budget & adhering to it

Regarding block strength, I don't think that's an issue for most people either way .

well if u get a 93-97 series the insurance would be less than the 98-02 cars, saving you some more "money cash"
but yea the ls1's are faster from the factory.

While building my stroker...my machinist told me that the Lt-1 is easier to work on and BUILD. He also told me that its harder to stroke or bore (I'm not sure ) but something about the cylinder sleeves being too thin.

the ls1 is quite a bit eeasier to work on, like plug changes and stuff. quite a bit more room. the ls1 is more expensive but it is a better engine than the lt1. lighter, more hp, better gas mileage, and no real difference in stregth. how can you go wrong

to the guy that said he has never lost to an ls1: i hope you have more than just a port and polish and valve job, if not you must have some really really bad drivers where you are from. most ls1's put more than 300hp down to the wheels or more bone stock. go to the ls1 section and look at some dyno sheets.
going to have to pull the good ole flag out unless you have more done.

you lt1 guys need to wake up and look around. how can you tell him the lt1 is a better engine?

LS1 yes is a better engine, but the block on the LT1 is much stronger, cmon, iron vs aluminum, its common sense

LT1 is not a bad engine, the LS1 is just better designed, its mainly because of the head design.
