Question lt1 vs ls1

whats the big difference besides the engine and body style of the ls1 and the lt1? whats the horse power comparrison between the two? i was thinking of getting 96 or newer but i wanted to know the difference to see if i want a 98 or newer because of the ls1

That really is the big difference, the engine. M6 is also made by a different company, whoever it was that bought the rights to the design.

Engine is lighter, about an inch taller (different V angle I believe), and is making around 345 HP in bone stock form vs 275-285 for the LT1s. Also has a stock 6k RPM limiter, and can easily put out 390-425 RWHP with a cam swap on stock heads, headers, lid, yada yada. The car costs more, and they have thier issues, so its really a decision you have to make. If your not sure, I'd sit on it, if you make an impulse decision you may regret it.

With that in mind, Vettes are easily 20-25k right now

If you want to build the motor go with the LT1, if just bolt ons and maybe a cam go LS1. BTW, the LS1's can't be overbored like the LT1's for a rebuild. The ones made after 01 I think can take a .020 overbore but no more.

cant ls1's get 382 all bore? someone told me that once

That is with a resleeved block though, I think the LS engines are into the 434 cube range now.

thanx for all the help. i think im going to go with a 98 camaro to a 2000 camaro which i wanted in the first place.
