LT1 Valve Lash Question

So, I had my valve lash professionally set with my 1.6 roller rockers last year. They are the GM ones with the adjustable nuts.

I removed them with a socket wrench and did not mess with the adjusting nuts. I kept the rocker arms, pushrods, and nuts organized by cylinder. I swapped the stock cam out for a hotcam.

Lets say if I were to re-assemble everything, and just tighten down the rockers on all cylinders to the adjusting nut stop.

My assumption would be one of two things.

1) Everything will be just fine and within acceptable tolerances for lash.

2) It will be too tight and require adjusting for the different profile of the cam

What do you think? I know the manual says use the TDC method. Am I thinking about this too much, or should I just suck it up and follow the manual?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Paul

Any time the nuts are removed, you will have to re-adjust the preload. This includes backing off the lock screws, adjusting, then re-tightening the locks.

Theres no guarantee the base circle on the cam lobes (which is where the valves will be closed) will be the same with a different cam, even if its GM.

Base Circle

I guess that is where my thinking was flawed. I was thinking that the base circle was the same on the two cams and that the settings would be the same (as long as I kept the hardware on the same cylinders).

Looks like I will be following one of shoebox's methods prior to coughing up the money to have it done.

Thanks for the assistance.

Base crcle on cam lobes is definitely different between the stock cam and the hotcam. Hotcam base is smaller.
