LT1 trans am vs ls1 Z28

My friend owns a 98 automatic z28 stock, and we are gonna race tonight. Im just wondering if he will completely kick my butt or will i be able to keep up for a while. I have a 94 trans am with AS&M 52mm TB w/ airfoil, 1le elbow, Cold air intake, TB bypass, relocated iat sensor, and have the free ram air scoop under the car. I also took out the spare tire and jack.

we are going on the freeway starting from 25mph, and another starting on a traffic light.

From the posts I have seen (when I have raced LS1 cars I wasn't stock so I can't say) most would agree you might hold your own at the light until the Z28 hits around 3rd then he should start walking.

From a 25 kick, he should win.

I have a feeling you will get dusted....my buddy has a 2000 Z28 and I have a 94 and at the time we raced I had full exhaust (headers and cat back) and a CAI and he handed me my butt pretty good and he was bone stock excpet for a lid.

You never know. When I had just CAI and catback I raced many LS1s and could hold my own. I even raced ones w/ Intake lids and catbacks and were pretty much dead even. My best friend has a 99 SS, when he was stock and I had CAI and catback we were pretty dang close. We raced dozens of time to 100+, and it was all up to the driver (sometimes I won sometimes he won). But generally my LT1 always has seemed to run better than most other LT1s... but I think you'll be surprised.

Now that he has 4.10s and Heads/Cam, and I am stock geared w/ stock heads and CC305 powered, he pulls me pretty good, esp at the track when I am boggin out of the hole and he shoots right out w/ the 4.10s helping him out. But if I jump him, then it takes him a bit to pass me up. Just race him, not like you're betting cars on it or anything!

Back from racing, i was surprised how many cars showed up, i got to race 4 times.

And you guys were right my freinds z28 beat me by a lil bit more than a car lenght, it was actually way closer than i thought, were were preatty even up until 80mph where he would start to pull ahead. For some reason i was able to get him on the start by about 1/4 lengh of a car which he would make up during his shift to 2nd.

I also raced a 300zx TT auto which i was able to beat by less than 1/2 a car, and smoked the hell out of a 300gt sl, and beat a 350z by over 1 car lenght

Every carn there got own by a 2004 mustang cobra, damn those things are fast, he took my freinds z28 by several cars length with ease.

Nice. The LS1 really comes on up high. Usually in an LT1/LS1 race, the LT1 will get the jump and by 3rd gear the LS1 is pulling ahead.

Sounds like that 04 snake was modded a bit. He should beat your friend's Z by 2 lengths, maybe less, if it's stock/stock. He's probably got a pulley on it.

Yeah, Lt-1s pull harder out of the hole than the LS-1. In most cases your race was about right, the LT-1 is a beast from 0-90 mph when compared to the LS-1, however, after 90 is when the LS-1 decides to really show up to the party.
