Lt1 timing question?

Lt1 timing question?

I am about to change the opti on my 94Z28 and was wondeing about a few things such as 1. what do I have to do inorder to re time the car? or it done by the pcm?

and is there any special tools that are needed?

Just remove and replace. There's nothing to it. Of coarse, you do have to remove your negative battery terminal---or both---to be safer. Just align the pin on the cam to the opti---if yours has it.

Thanks! but what if there is no pin? it's a pretty long process to go through if you have to do it twice.

just orient the same way you removed it. I usually use white out--in pen style-- to mark stuff, as I am taking it off or apart. Then I just reorient the marks-----keeps you out of trouble.

That's right, 94's dont have the long pin like the 95-97.

Your 94 uses a splined drive shaft to connect the Opti to the cam nose/sprocket. The spline has a "missing" tooth, and in theory the shaft will only fit in the assembly in one position. But I've seen too many posts from people who have managed to force it together in the wrong position.

As you take the Opti off, look carefully at how the splined shaft fits into everything, and take extreme care to make sure you position it correctly, based on the missing tooth.

The "pin" drive is used in the 95 and up vented units.
