Are you going to keep the electronic fuel injection, and Optispark distributor, or are you going to convert to a carb with conventional rear-mounted distributor?

The Caprice LT1 has iron heads and milder cam - F-Body and Y-Bodys have aluminum heads and a bit more aggressive cam. Just from a weight advantage, the aluminum heads might be worth installing.

Thumbs up Re: Lt1 swap

Man the Nova swap should be cake. Like my 68 Camaro essentially. Wish I could find something like that quick and cheap I could throw mt LT1 into. My swap was in the 90 Silverado in my sig, which I've since passed on to my little brother. The trans went out, then it blew a head gasket. We had the valves done, and cleaned up the heads. The trans is being fixed. He has a hot cam kit coming, and then we'll screw it all back together, it should be pretty sick. It was a handfull before with no cam. Once we get it all done the ecm is getting a tune for the rear. That was my mistake. Hey I couldn't think of everything, so if you use the 4l60e make sure you have the ecm tuned for your rear end ratio. My shift points were a little off going from a 3:23.1- a 3:07.1 in the truck. Outside of that, it worked out great, and I drove it around for quite a while. I was trying to use a hypertech to get them right, and they got better, but what killed my trans was loading it up and driving down south pulling a trailer. Next swap I have no intention of using an automatic trans. I'm looking to do it again only this time with my Tremec (pulled from my 68) bolted to it, into something without an ecm, as I happened to get my hands on a GMPP LT1 carb intake and a MSD streetfire distributor. Injuneer probably knows more on the swap subject, just figured I'd give my .02. There a few things to hook up if you're running it with an ecm. It's not really that bad though, and mpg will be into a neighborhood that Nova has probably never seen.
