Lt1 Starters year specific?
Lt1 Starters year specific?
I keep getting different stories and hope somebody on this board can clarify. Are 96-97 Lt1 starters any different than the starters from 93-95 Lt1s? Why and how are they different? I have been told that he fuel pumps are different as well. Please, any specific info would be great. Yes I know I can phone a GM dealer, but those guys only punch keys on their computers (I know irony). Any Lt1 specialist please chime in. Thanks
Re: Lt1 Starters year specific?
AFAIK, the 93-94 starters are a little different than the 95-97 starters in the way the solenoid is attached. As far as function, I think they will all interchange.
Re: Lt1 Starters year specific?
As far as interchange goes. The starter is the straight pattern as opposed to the staggered pattern and is available at several places. I got mine from Summit when my stocker got stuck engaged.

Re: Lt1 Starters year specific?
There may be some slight differences as shoebox mentioned but as far as functionality a lot of the b-body guys use a certain 305 mid 80s f-body starter as a replacement because it cost substantially less. I forget all the details but it speaks to how "universal" a lot of the "LT1" stuff is.
