LT1 Simple questions before tune up
LT1 Simple questions before tune up
1). Leaks oil from somewhere on the front.. never drips but gets everything wet with oil, somewhere around the timing cover?
2).I have a secondary air injection system malfunction code thrown, it seems like the air pump is coming on even after the car is warmed up, and ive been driving it for about 30 mins, it still comes on, what would happen if i pulled the relay for it?
3). tomorrow im doing the plugs, wires and an oil change, anything else i should do while im in there?

Understanding what the code relates to would be helpful. For example a DTC 0410 runs the pump in closed loop and checks the response of the O2s both while the pump is running and after it shuts down. So in that case, the pump will run after it warms up as you put it.
Removing the relay will simply set more codes in addition to the one you already have. ie DTC 0412.
I believe the pumps will become locked up and pop a breaker. check the pump and the fuse.
Your oil leak should be addressed. In the front of the engine you have 3 seals in the front cover. The front cover gasket and the end seal of the intake manifold all of which may leak. I suggest you use a high mileage oil to help seal any leaking rubber seals while at the same time, add a die to the oil. The high mileage oil has a lot more swelling agent in it then conventional oil and will help a leaky seal. It will not work on the end of the intake seal or the timing cover gasket. The die with the help of a UV light will help find the leak if the swelling agent didn't work.

I recently had an oil leak in my 97 SS that was coming from the oil cooler system. From what I understand, this was an option so your car may or may not have it. I also understand that SS M6 cars were more likely to have this option. You can reference my thread from not too long ago when I was trying to figure out what to do.
