LT1 Short Block

Here is my situation. I don't drive my car everyday. Only on the weekends. I've done a search on short blocks and came up with alot of good info. I just wanted some customized opinions for my situation. I think I want to go with a short block because I think my rings are almost shot. Not possitive but a good excuse for a short block. I'm open to almost all options. Including: stock short block, 383 short block (what I really want), locally built (Houston area), or mail order. I have Lloyd Elliot heads with 2.0 intake and I think 1.57 exhast valves and I want to keep those. And the main question is what cam. I have the Hot Cam right now but I want to step it up some. Possibly custom grind. I am running a 100 shot of nitrous but I mostly run NA. Also, I would like to keep it around $2400 for the short block plus cam, gaskets, etc. I have a 2800 stall converter but thinking about bumping it to 3200 or even 3400 rpm. One more question would be should I spend a little more money and get forged? What is the differece between forged and non forged. I know forged is stronger, but do I need that for my street car with a 100 shot, possibly 150 shot of nitrous? The rest of mods in sig.

Re: LT1 Short Block

personal opinion......the 224/230 is too small.

I have the GM 847 installed, haven't driven it yet.

Hey you might check out the kit Summit sells. It ahs all the gaskets bearings ect and forged pistons for $500. You may as well go forged and that way you dont have to worry when you go 150. I know a lot of people safely use 150 on stock but if your rebuilding what the heck. Maybe you should call Loyd about a cam.

Ya, mabe I'll look into getting a rebuild kit. I have emailed Lloyd. I'm sure he will have some good suggestions. Anyone else?

Cam: Nobody knows Lloyds heads better than Lloyd, I'd see what he suggests for the combo...but don't be scared to hit up Advanced Induction, or Joe Overton either...I seen some good results with his cams, I don't really know who he is though.

IMO you won't need a Forged crank for a 100 shot, you can get a Scat9000 for a little over $200. But, if you got the money and want the insurance, go for the forged crank. Pistons, go with a nice forged piston...there's many...SRP makes a nice one for a good price.
