LT1 Serpertine belt removal

Do you really need a 3/8'-inch serpentine belt removal bar in order to remove the belt? I don't remember using one last time I switched one out in my 98 years ago?

A long 13mm boxed end wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt has worked fine for me for years.

But I use a 1/2 in or 13 mm socket w/ racket
