lt1 runs great, sometimes
lt1 runs great, sometimes
I have a 95 lt1 with a six speed. The car is pretty much stock aside from headers and intake. The car will start and run great 90% of the time. However, every once in a while it won't start or will die as I'm driving. Sometimes I can roll start it before stopping other times it just won't fire. Sometimes after it dies it won't start for an hour or more other times it will fire right back up. I first thought it was the opti, coil, or icm. I've replaced the coil and icm, neither worked. I'm thinking that if it was the opti, it would just completely quit not run fine most of the time. I finally found someone that could read the codes and the only code it threw was something about a torque converter sensor not reading right??? This really suprised me. So now I'm thinking the car either used to be an automatic or now has an automatic wiring harness? The guy that had the code scanner said the neutral safety switch had somehow probably been rigged up to this torque convertor sensor. I can usually figure stuff out, but this has really been giving me a hard time. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or has heard of this sort of issue before? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Re: lt1 runs great, sometimes
I'm not sure of the actual code numbers. When I have a day off I'll try to get it scanned again. When the guy told me what the scanner said I was pretty shocked by it. I have no idea why it would mention anything about a torque convertor sensor. As far as I know it has always been a manual car, no signs of being switched to manual.
Re: lt1 runs great, sometimes
There are DTC codes that are used for both the automatic (A4) and the manual (M6). For example, DTC 84 = faulty skip shift solenoid if the car has the M6; 3-2 Control Solenoid Circuit if the car has the A4. If the guy just read the generic description of the code off the scanner, he might have messed up.
Re: lt1 runs great, sometimes
Nothing in VIN indicates what transmission the car has, found a VIN decoder at http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...fourth-gen.asp The RPO codes did have MN6. So the car was a manual, but it was wrecked so I think there's a good chance the wiring harness may have had to been replaced.
I called the guy with the scanner earlier, we are gonna try to meet up this weekend sometime.
What really gets me about this problem is how spontaneous it seems to be. I can drive the car for 2 weeks without issue. Other times it will die on me 5 times in one day. I've tried to discover a pattern in what I'm doing when it dies such as: how long I've been driving, speed I'm traveling, what gear I'm in, engine temperature, etc. But I can't come up with any sort of pattern. It does it whenever it decides to, only thing I've really noticed is it seems to die a lot when my girlfriend is riding along lol. So she swears my car doesn't like her
