All F-Body and Corvette LT1 heads are aluminum. Only the Impala/Roadmaster/Fleetwood heads are iron

All LT1 heads are interchangable year-to-year.... e.g. 97 heads will fit on a 93. Iron heads can also be fitted, unless they are from the 265ci "Baby LT1" from the Caprices. You can also interchange LT1 and LT4 heads, as long as you use the matching intake manifold. You can not interchange LT1 heads with earlier "Gen 1" small-block Chevy heads, nor with the later Gen 3 LS1 heads. You could modify the Gen 1 heads to fit, but it involves welding up some water passages and drilling some new ones.

Supposedly the earlier heads are a little thicker, but not sure how much difference it makes.
