LT1 Presidential?
What's going on everyone! This maybe in the wrong column, if so, I appologize. I am a newbie, as you can tell. I do not have a F-body, but I do have a 92 Chevy 1500 RCSB truck with the 350/700R4. It has been lowered slightly with a 2/4 kit and 16x7 (front) & 16x10 (rear) Chevy rallies and low profile BFG rubber. I can also be found over at www.fullsizechevy.com.
Now down to business. I am in the process finding a LT1 with wiring harness, all accessories, etc. for my truck. I have stumbled across one that sounded a little strange to me.
I found a LT1 out of a 97 Camaro SS that is complete, but with out the transmission, which is fine because I already have a completely rebuilt (0 miles) 4L60E out of a 97 F-Body. What is strange about it is that he claims that it is a "Presidential" LT1 with 315 hp at the flywheel. I have never heard of a "Presidential" version of this engine in anything that I've read, unless he is talking about one of those factory freaks that are out there. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also, he can't remember if the car was a stick or auto. I thought it made a difference with the computer. He said it didn't, but from eveything I've read, it does. Again it is a LT1 from a 97 Camaro SS inc. the wiring harness, computer, all accessories, etc. Thanks in advance for any help and advice you all can give me. L8r!

Re: LT1 Presidential?
"Presidential", eh?
What a bunch of BS...
They're all gonna be right around 300 hp to start out with, if you've got a decent intake and exhaust.
If he's trying to charge more for that "Presidential" crap, just refer him to this board so he can learn which years have the vented/non-vented optispark, obd1/2, 1 cat/2, new/old interior, etc...

Re: LT1 Presidential?
I suspect that someone once told him a fanciful story, which he believed and is now passing on to you.
I suppose there COULD be something like that out there, because I have come across some real oddities in my decades of being involved with cars; things that everyone swears doesn't exist, but there it is in front of me.
Still; Occam's Razor and all...

Re: LT1 Presidential?
Oh I forgot your other question:
Tuning can take car of the ecm if it's meant for the wrong tranny, there's several places that can take care of that for cheap, it's stuff you'll need anyway unless you plan on staying stock. But you do need the correct wiring- you need the transmission harness for the auto- PIC
So you should be able to check for that connector on the harness that you have to see if you'll need to worry about it at all. Most likely it is an auto ecm, since most Camaros are.

Re: LT1 Presidential?
Well, if you have the Kerry Lt1, the numbers are probably correct, however if you have the GW lt1, then they are probably lying about the numbers and the engine will probablyl self-destruct the first time out. JMHO
Re: LT1 Presidential?
Will if you get the Kerry LT1 it will make 300hp then 6hp then filp flop again and make 3000hp then claim that he would never flip flop. Then do what it thought was best for it at the time
