For the money it will cost it isn't worth it. I have a wrecked LS1, but for the money it would cost to transplant it into my Z I would rather build a kickass LT1. Too many things need to be modified.
If you are set on the LS1 why don't you sell the LT1 and get the LS1!
Good luck!

Call Steve Cole at TTS - he did a lot of work for GM in the prototype fitment of the LS1 architecture into the 4th generation F-body. He had LS1's in Camaro's running around town before anybody knew what an LS1 was.

for the money it would cost to put in a LS1 you could have a WAY better LT1... use the money to mod the LT1!

Besides have to put in a new engine, you have to get a different hood too... the 93-97 hoods will not fit with an LS1

I don't remember where I heard this but I too have heard this. In fact I also heard that is one of the reasons for the front end change from 98 to 99.

I sure would like to know if this is accurate info or not.

You can overpower and outrun an LS1 with just a cam swap in the LT1... much cheaper and less time consuming.

If the LS1 is stock a cam swap in a LT1 the LT1 will drag it. But most LS1 guys aren't stock, my roomates LS1 puts down 422 at the wheels. I know a cam LT1 will not hang with his LS1 and he has stock heads and no Nitous.......Yet.

Re: ls1 in a 93-97 z

Full bolt on ls1s can make 360 to the wheels which is more than most cam only lt1s. A better choice would be to get a good set of sbc heads(which can outflow ls1 heads by a nice margine) and have them converted to reverse flow cooling. Then by a carb intake and convert it to a regular style distibutor. The downside is that you'll need cowl hood or high rise ram air hood but it'll be cheaper and have a lot more potential. Also you'll need a ls1 transmission to do a ls1 swap as they aren't interchangable.

ok the ls1 idea is now out, it was just an idea i was tossing around, im just undecided as to what direction i want to take naturally aspirated or forced air, super charger or turbo would be cool but i have a feeling that i will get more bang for the buck going naturally aspirated. i should have quite a bit of money to play with when i get back.

Don't LS1s also use a different steering rack? Someone told me this recently.
