lt1 police package mount location
hi, newbee here. I have a 79 z and I am going to re-engine it. I am really able mechanically but I know only old smallblock stuff. I would like to know if a 95 LT1 Impala police package will fit into my 79. Engine mounts close or the same? Tailshaft length a problem with too short of a driveshaft needed? Trans tunnel need modified? I guess the intake will be ok since it's not out of a truck. how about the speedometer connection? Can anyone aim me at some threads about lt1 vs 79. Any help would be most appreciated. I can really weld (tig) and turn a wrench. This LT, LS stuff is boggling me. I intend to get a wrecked, or rusted vehicle, and strip out harness, computer, trans, and engine, so they all play happily together. Make sense?
Re: lt1 police package mount location
A place like http://www.lt1swap.com/ might be of some use to you. An LT1 is essentially a SBC, so anything a SBC fits in, an LT1 will fit, too.
Re: lt1 police package mount location
police package meant NOTHING engine wise so forget that detail, and the Impala SS package was a TRIM package and was not available as a police car. Really the police package was nearly a trim package, gone were the days of the blues brothers.
The LT1 was never offered in a truck and while there are a few different castings the only "fitment" issue any of them have has to do with the fuel rail.
You seem to be leading yourself wildly astray by lumping the LT1 and the LS motors in together when an LT1 is a sequential injected SBC with a goofy cooling system and the LS motors are a whole new breed.
Frankly if doing an injected retrofit to an older carbed vehicle I would skip straight to the LS. Truck engines are cheap and MUCH easier to get than LT1s.
