lt1 off of a caprice
lt1 off of a caprice
i was at the junkyard today. get replace my glovebox. and also looking for a boneyard motor. not a single camaro and firebird didn't habe a motor in also the part i was trying to find. but i came across of this caprice that had the lt1. the guy told me that he sell me the motor for 175 dollars plus 50 dollar charge to use his stand and chain lifer(it's power by a wrench with a car batti.) should i got for it or not?
ya know i got a camaro!!! with the lt1. the 4.3 is not in that car. but the motor got iron heads. sh#t! but i wanna get it and rebuild the motor. i going to replace the heads with some edelbrock heads. but should i get it or not!!
Up to you, I mean if your gonna rebuild it, any lt1 350 block will do wont it?
Are you just doing a stock rebuild on the bottom end? Turn the crank, resize the rods?
I bought a used block. I still have my original block. Dreaming of an all out build, just not sure if it'll be turbo or what.
The Caprice if infact a LT1 is the same exact shortblock as an f-body so it will work. The Edelbrock heads on the otherhand are a bad choice. You realize their heads and cam package puts less to the flywheel than a good heads and cam package puts to the tires.
$175 is fairly cheap for the whole thing, let alone the block , seeing as how I have seen alot (block only)for that price or more and you would still have to pay for shipping, etc.

i am rebuild it from ground up. i trying to hit 12 on the strip!
then what value heads that is good out their!!!
Or the VIN, 8th digit: P = LT1, W = L99 (4.3)
i go back to check when i get some shock's for my trunk! but, check out this video. this is what i find when i open up the hood of the caprice. and yes, this car i was looking at the junkyard had 20 inch rims and a stereo system.

I'd agree with Dwayne, the edelbrock heads aren't a good choice. They are pretty much the same as stock. Save your cash and get a head /cam package for a few hundred more.
Check the stamping on the block. The rear should say "5.7L" or look for the 327 number on the block towards the front.
