Post The F-Body is Dead - Good News For Those of Us Who Own One!

What we see is history repeating itself - consider what happened in the wake of the
B-Body cancellation. The value of used Impalas, Caprices and even Roadmasters was astronomical for a five year period after production ceased. Considering that the F-body was a far more desirable product, we can fully expect the same phenomenon to happen again - the resale value of a Camaro Z28/SS was already pretty high.

As enthusiasts we can mourn the passing of the best performance car value the world has ever seen. I think we should fully appreciate the cars that we have - the folks that didn't "pony up" for a Camaro when they had the chance are the ones who should be crying!

I disagree. F-bodies are plentiful, and let's face it the last few years F-bodies haven't been desireable to the general public. I would NOT expect values to jump significantly, if at all.

The B-body was a far more desirable product to the general public. It was not killed due to poor sales, but to make room for more trucks (arg). Impala SS resale value was high from day one. They never made enough of these cars to satisfy demand, so resale remains high. Not true with the F-body. I would expect resale to hold a little better, but not by a whole lot.

One point we're missing here.

The Impala SS was the only one to see it's value go up once production stopped. Impala SS's highest production figures were the final year, and it wasn't because people knew it was going to be discontinued (it was almost a last minute decision). Today it's still hard to find an SS out here for under $22,000 (the good ones run $30K )

Camaro on the other hand, faced it's lowest sales it's final few years, and everyone has known for some time the f-bodies were going to be terminated. If F-bodies do appriciate, it won't be for at least a few years (assuming the upcomming group of affordable performance cars aren't as fast...fat chance).

Liek Z28Wilson said... there are just too many F-Bodies out there for it to even hold it's value, let alone go up.

There might be a very short 'panic blip' in the used F-Market, but nothing substantial...

The 94-96 Impala SS cars are relatively rare, and the run was so short... that's why their value has stuck around, IMO.

Another point to consider is the usage and condition of F-bodies versus the Impala SS. I think the ratio of Impala SS garage queeens is a lot higher than that of the F-bodies. I take excellent care of my Z28 but, unfortunately, I see a lot of punk kids ragging on their F-bodies and beating them up until they're junk. That also affects the resale value that we're talking about here. I don't mean to stereotype in any way here so please don't be offended. I'm merely saying that the Impala SS is generally treated with more care and respect than a lot of the F-bodies are.

My $0.02.
