Is the LT1 motor an "interference" design motor?

I thought all GM V8s were non interference and a friend just told me he fried an old olds motor when the timing chain broke.

Thanks

To my knowledge, its a non-interfierance motor.

On interference engines if you break and timing belt the pistons can smack the valves. This causes good damage.Expensive damage.I have a 92 talon with this type of engine. Its a dumb design but guess has some advantages just not sure what they might be.On that car you religiously change the timing belt at 60,000 miles I think it is.I just bought the car from auction a few months ago.

The lt1 is definitely non interference. If you break a timing chain the car will die.Thats it..no expensive repairs..much better I think.

That's kinda what I thought, since I heard my friends talking about once, but they have LS1's and thought it might be different. Thank's for the explanation though.
