LT1 intake, wrinkle black or red?

I am trying to decide what color I am going to paint the intake on the LT1 that I am building for my wifes 97.

I have a 93 intake that I am sending to AI for a little work. In the mean time I painted the 94 and the 97 intakes to see which color I like best.

I am leaning towards the wrinkle black. I also did a set of the OEM valve covers in the wrinkle black. I'll post pics later.

Here are a few of both the red and the black. I took a couple with the flash, and a couple without. In person, they look more like the pics without a flash.

Keep in mind that I will be polishing the top ridges that are usually machined.

That black looks very odd, guess iv never seen wrinkle black before. I recommend you paint it red, but leave them top lines natural, or silver. Im sure you have seen what im talking about before.

EDIT: read your post and relised you are already going to polish the top part.

I vote for red. Also makes it easier to notice issues such as leaks and stuff.

The red doesn't look much smoother than the wrinkle black. Leave them unpainted and polish them. Or at least get the surface smooth enough to produce an acceptable paint smoothness and do a gun-metal gray, with the top ribs highly polished.

What color is your car? Mine is black so I did not want a black intake on a black engine in a black car. I am powdercoating mine chrome with red for the raised lines on top of the intake. I think this will dress up my engine compartment nicely. So I would try a color that does that to yours.

the black one looks too much like my garbage can in the pictures with the flash. Although it does look nice in the pics without the flash. If the picture without the flash is more accurate to what it looks like in person I say go with black, if not then go with red

I thought about going with hammered grey.

It is painted ford Dark Shadow Grey (the same color as my 03 Cobra), which looks similar to the 93/94 Purrple Pearl Metallic.

Like the pics of tyhe intake, the lighting kind of throws the color off. They were taken as the sun was going down and it made the color look lighter than it actually is. It is a bit darker of a color than the pics show.

Yes, I got it from a local auto finishing supplier. It is very durable.

The pics really do not do the wrinkle black any justice. I probably should not have posted the ones with the flash. There is way too much reflection and it really does not look that extreme. The ones with no flash accurately show its looks.

I painted my old ported Eaton blower the wrinkle black before I did the install on a friends Cobra. everyone that see's it in person loves it. I had about a can and a half left over from that and wanted to experiment on the intake. It came out so good, I did the valve covers. I will have to take some pics in the natural light.

I like the black wrinkle. I think it will look a lot better with sanded fins with either a natural finish or polished. I painted my intake gloss black and polished the fins.

smooth gloss black or polished natural. That wrinkle finish is good on a tool box but would look very dirty in no time flat.

The wrinkle black looks like oil that's never been changed.
