Re: LT1 intake on LT4 heads

Im pretty sure that the LT-4 heads are not a completely raised port (like many assume it is), but just the rasied roof........this is what was explained to me some time back by a reputable engine builder when I was considering purchasing a pair...........

so basically the LT4 head port is just a little taller..so using the LT1 intake wont really disrupt the airflow jsut slow it down a little due to the velocity factor going from the LT1 intake port to the larger LT4 head port..

The angle on the plane where the head and intake meet are different if I remember right.
Sucks that they quit making LT4 intakes... guess they'll shoot up to prices of Minirams now.. Sounds more and more like a LS2 swap for me.

I'd definetly have the intake port matched to the heads cause you don't want a nasty vaccum leak.

Yeah the intake will fit right above each runner you might have to weld up the intake for the material you remove its just the roof of the runner is raised my porter was going to port my heads to LT4 gaskets and i was going to have to weld on the intake and i said **** on that i was on a budget and wanted to get my car done

No, the angle is not different. The difference is that the cast part of each LT4 intake runner is taller, causing an interference with the valve cover rails on an LT1 head. Going the other way, putting an LT1 intake on an LT4 head will not have the valve cover rail interference problem. But it might need material welded to the top of each runner so it can be opened up to match the taller ports in the LT4 heds.

The LT1 intake will work on a set of LT4 heads. It's not optimum, but it does work.
