lt1 ignition problems? brand new arcing wires

My 93 camaro was arcing on all wires where they touched metal including the coil wire so i installed a set of Taylor 8mm plug wires. the miss was still there so i took out my jet chip and its running ALOT better but the arcing and miss is still there but not as bad. the lt1 is out of a caprice with a vented opti. could the caprice cam be causing the miss or do i need to go to thicker wires?

Start over. Once arcing they are compromised and they are gone

We all have been there on this one.STOCK WIRES AND AFTER MARKET WIRES that are pre-assembled & sized specifically for the LT1 will work. Careful routing away from metal is the next step. Then use woven, fiberglass sleeves that fit over the wires closest to where they approach hot metal parts...like the exhaust manifold will help. High heat and high voltage rot these wires and cause arcing. Someone who has experience with routing will be helpful.

Make sure you plug gap is not too big. Spec is .050" IIRC. Big gaps will cause arcing.
FWIW I have had arcing wires too. Went with MSD super conductors and never had it again.

What are the plugs gapped at. What hes saying is spark follows the path of least resistance. If the wire is closer to the metal than the electrodes are to each other, than arc it is. I have had taylor 8mm wires on my car for 8 years, and they dont arc at all. Like someone said earlier, check the routing. They could easily be pinched or burned. Hope this helps. Eric L

wrd1972 already asked the right question and Prorac1 repeated it. Unfortunately, they didn't get an answer..... nothing more I can add.

Yeah for sure you have to make sure the gap is correct, and also you always have to use wooven sleeves or the outer layer of the cable will break on the sharp turns the wires have to make from the distributor to the plugs. Note some plugs you get have specifications on them that tell you how much to torque them or seat them. I dont think the chip could be causing that its shorting out somewhere like the other guys said.

I had a brand new set of Taylors before that arched and was very dissapointed.

Took them back and bought my Accel Extreme 9000 wires and they work perfect.

the Taylor wires were brand new, and the chip was for the 93 computer. Im still using the 93 computer and wiring but the car has a caprice cam due to engine swap.also i just put the plugs in because the guy at the part store said they cant be gapped. they are the platinum 2 plugs with two tips on each plug. the chip is supposed to advance the timing to improve performance but i guess becuase of not having the z28 cam then maybe the timing might be off??? also i dont have heat shields on

the reason it has a vented opti is because the engine is newer than my 93

The reason is has a vented Opti is because all the B-bodys (94-96) got the vented Opti. The F-Body didn't get it until 95.

I just got through with the coil arcing problem. It was the wires.
