lt1 heads removal -different perspective?
lt1 heads removal -different perspective?
I'm going to ask a really dumb question here, but I'm curious if anyone has had the same thought. After doing a whole bunch of searches on heads removal and all the complications with different tubes and doing it with engine in the car vs. pulling the motor and all the other variations and possibilities, I decided to finally pull out the service manual and take a look.
So I'm looking at my Service manual (book 1 of 2) and i'm in section six looking at all the different drawings representing the heads and intake and exhaust manifolds.
I'm looking at what is the fastest way to get the heads off the car. The amount of "total" work would be the same as doing it all on the car, but it sure would be nice to have all of it on a table versus skinned knuckles and various extensions.
So here's the question after that long setup...
Would it be possible to take the heads, intake and exhaust manifolds off the car as one piece? So I would take off the ypipe, remove all the accessories attached to the heads in the front, remove the head bolts and then lift off the heads, intake and exhaust manifolds as one unit. Now I would then have everything on a bench and would be easier to get the exhaust manifolds off and all the other tight places.
Thoughts?

thats a good idea. nice thinking outside the box. but i dont think there is any clearance under the dashboard for you to pull out the ypipe with eveyrthing or even the headers with everythig attatched.
