For Those Skeptical.....Motor out the top

WITH tranny attached. Have a look. Tranny and all, slid right out. Only "extra" stuff we had to remove was the crank pulley, EGR, and both sides of the driver side motor mount. Even left the water pump on. I'm almost willing to be that it would have come out with the ASM headers attached. Once we figured those things out, the motor popped out in just a couple of minutes. We didn't have to twist it sideways or anything. Straight pluck.

.........I guess I really am serious about fixing this motor/building a new motor.

Mine came out the top with the tranny attached also, I don't think too many people disagree that it is possible, it is just a lot more work and it comes out at a rediculus angle.

I really didn't think it was that bad. I was using a TPIS Happy Hooker, and that thing let the motor/tranny hang at a natural angle to pluck it right out.

I knew I saw a happy hooker in there.
Hay can you tell me what thread and size the bolts are for bolting on the Happy Hooker?
I got one used and have no bolts I'm going to get some grade 8 bolts.
I'm going to do my engine mid next year.
Thanks,

Re: For Those Skeptical.....Motor out the top

I pulled mine out the top. I unbolted the tranny and let it sit on the ground next to the car and pulled the motor out the top. One note here I had never done anything like this before and figured I'd give it a try. I din't have a cherry picker so I used the header for my garage door. The garage wasn't finished yet. I wraped and chain and come a long to the header and hooked an engine leveler to the engine. Pulled right out the top and then rolled the car backwards so I could lower the engine to the ground. I know it's not the typical way of doing things but it worked and next time I do this I'll get a cherry picker just to make it easier.

Re: For Those Skeptical.....Motor out the top

Mine came out from the top with the trans attached last friday night, and my balancer was still attached too. But I might have to get one of those happy hookers from TPIS because it looks like you had an easier time than I did. I had to remove my intake to get enough clearance to put the load leveler on so I could tilt it to the correct angle. I didn't have to remove my motor mounts though, I just took out the long bolt and nut that go through them and it otherwise came out fairly smoothly.

It's about 45 minutes south. Basicly where route 73 and the A/C Expressway intersect. About 15 minutes from Atco.

Yeah, the happy hooker DEFINITELY made things much easier. No load leveler or anything was needed. Just pluck and go.

I pulled the motor mounts mainly because the oil filter was still on and I figured..."Why Not?"
