Overall, I think there's way too much emphasis on flow numbers around here. Honestly, you don't see as much of this in the hardcore race forums or between racers who do nothing but race for a living, so it's a bit odd.
What most people realize after building a few competition level engines is that flow is not the end all, be all of performance. Most of the guys who really know how to port may not get the biggest flow numbers but I can guarantee you that they are making the most power. Pull the heads from a good strong competition engine sometime and you will see why.... even burn throughout the combustion chamber.... no "clean spots" just uniform coloration everywhere. The big guys spend as much time getting the flow to make a good burn as they do making good numbers. Myself and just about everyone out there who's been in this a while has seen engines with heads that flow some 2-3% more than a previous set lose power. A bit more to it than just flow numbers.
