lt1 heads

i have a set of stock heads id like to get ported and polished my only concern is will i have to do the intake manifold or get new types of gaskets or will they fit like they did and will i be able to use my headers i found pics of the porting process and it looks like they relocate the intake and exhaust ports some what higher on the heads, just wondering before i get it done

Re: lt1 heads

Necessity to modify the intake really depends on what all you have done to the heads. The ports are not moved pe se, just made larger and to some degree have a slightly different shape. You should be able to use stock type gaskets and if you already have headers thy should be good to go. To get specific answers for your set up you should really talk to the shop that will be doing the porting. Do you have anyone in mind? Also what are your goals and what are you trying to achieve with the porting?

Re: lt1 heads

If they're out of an '82 Trans Am, I don't think they would be LT1 heads.

Re: lt1 heads

Alot to consider in my opinion because if your not adding a cam then what you do in the heads probably should reflect that just as if you are adding a cam. Be careful using that term port and polish because you may spend your money for polish and would better off giving it away(assuming you mean polish to gain power rather than external polish to look shiny). There may be a few horsepower in opening up a stock manifold to match the heads(i literaly mean matching the heads not gasket)but probably not at a mild build level and often might lose a couple if done wrong. The ports being smaller on the intake keeps velocity high and thats important. Gasket matching on the intake sometimes makes the ports larger than the head. And the air hits a wall. I suggest getting in contact with someone reputable like loyd elliot or who you plan to do the port work. Somewere I have an old thread were loyd went into detail how to port intakes and heads(believe his username was nightrain and was this forum or ls1 lt1). Find out what head you have or you may need different heads too

Re: lt1 heads

You really need to add a "SIGNATURE" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans, and major mods. If I recall correctly from your previous posts, you are putting a carbed 96 LT1 in a 2000 V6 Camaro.

I've suggested the addition of a SIGNATURE at least twice previously. Not sure why you refuse to provide people with the info they need to help you.

You don't port heads to "remove some of the build up".
