I was DEAD even to 95 or so with a new 5spd GT with my lowly automatic LT1. I killed an automatic. I know this thread isn't just aimed at Mustangs. Lets face it, the LT1 is old tech. We're getting what we gave the TPI and Foxbody guys. Consider the favor returned. Just keep modding to stay ahead of the curve.

Something that I find interesting is that here we are 15 years later, and a stock mustang GT puts down to the wheels as much as my 94 lt1 (around 280hp) did with a cold air and catback and comes nowhere near what a stock LS1 put down. Pretty pathetic. The old 5.0s were fun, but when they went away, the mustang went down hill IMHO.

I still like how the LT1 cars look. I have hate on my engine sometimes when I work on it, but, despite all I've done to it, I don't really have problems which force me to have to work on it. I think being a short production run engine with special ignition, intake, & heads has caused aftermarket to be less abundant and more expensive. Kind of got the usual Chevy small block bottom end without the ability to use all the cool heads that were developed for it over the years. There's enough development and knowledge these days to make them go decently - wish we had the LS style heads...

Who really cares? Your complaining about people hating on the lt1 yet you hate on the 4.6's? and to whoever said 4.6's are junk, are you serious? they run around the same times as a healthy lt1 with way less cubes, add some artificial atmosphere and they just get plain nasty. Im sure tpi guys dont make threads crying about how lt1 owners bash their ****. There is always going to be something faster no matter what you drive. Personally I love my car, Do I Kick some ls1 ***? yes. Do I get my lt1 *** kicked by ls1's? yes. The Lt1 is old, outdated, unreliable, and I love it. Stop worrying what the "cool" kids are saying.

i have a 95z and raced a 01 gt about 3 weeks ago, all i had done at the time was exhaust, cai, stock gears, stock tranny, and stock suspension on run flat wore out street tires, he had stall, gears, tune, suspension, tires not sure but not street, he had lots done to the motor. i lost but only about half a car, he pulled off the line of course while i was spinning, but after that i was right on his *** him not pulling at all. he didnt say much to me after we raced lol he thought his car was pretty fast till that day, then i found out that he working on motor about a week ago, and ran the motor completely out of oil and seized the motor up, just as i got my gears and stall in DAMN

Thanks for posting that up, I was just looking for it! I ended up spending around 500 or 600 on it in totall.

-Bought the box from Bob
-Bought used coils from Hawks Thirdgen
-Bought Taylor cut to fit wires
-Bought LS1 style re-location brackets from Thunder Racing
-Bought wire guides, that allow the spark plug wires to run up and next to the heads from Thunder racing.
-Also a few things in between like some wire looming, spare nuts and bolts here and there. If this thread is still going a few weeks from now, when I take out of storage I'll post some pics.

Try the LS1 system on the LT1... it will put the LT1 right next to the ls1.

I LOVE my LT1!!!! I'm comming from a regular SBC in my 81Z to a fuel injected reverse flow SBC. I would NEVER go back to a carberated car. Other then the Opti, I'm sure the LS cars are just as hard to work on, there's no room under the hood of the 4th gens....
I compleatly rebuild the 350 in my 81 with a bigger cam and about the same flow # on the heads and it only made 375 HP on the engine dyno, and it was a BITCH to drive because it had no vacume for the brakes(4spd). My stock bottem end LT1 almost makes that at the wheels(sig)!!!!!
There are 2 LS1 TA's where I live and they both stay away from me now that i've handed both of them there ***. LOL .And both cars are FULL bolt on. So go ahead and bash them, but when you come up against a GOOD one you better be ready....

Everything on an LS1 is much easier to work on than an LT1. Much more clearance everywhere.

Its just because its the new 'old' motor... TPI guys bashed the carb guys, the LT1 guys knocked the TPI crowd, the LS1 guys bashed the LT1 guys, then the LS2/LS3 guys will start bashing the LS1 guys... its always been like that, and probably always will be.

And my '97 LT1/6spd with LOTS of miles had no problem wiping the floor with a friends '04 GT with under 30k on it (both cars are stock). It wasn't even a race after about the first 60ft lol. His was louder, I'll give him that..
