Lt1 gurus inside--ignition trouble?
Lt1 gurus inside--ignition trouble?
My car is missing up high once again. It usually happens when it's hot out. I've changed the distributor three times now, because the car would start missing like this and eventually start dying, and every time it's fixed things for about a month or two. If you look under the hood at night, you can see the coil faintly arcing to the metal bracket that goes around it. This has happened with four different coils. Every time I change the opti the arcing goes away for a while or becomes not as bad.
The plugs have been changed twice, the wires have been changed twice, all withing the past 7k miles or so. The fuel filter is about 8 or 9 months old, and fuel pressure is fine as tested with a mechanical fuel pressure gauge. The egr valve is fine.
The miss normally occurs at wot at high rpms. Sometimes it lasts about a scecond or two, other times it's just a quick jerk. The car will then either quit missing and shift to second or just shift to second.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm taking my car to a fellow here that's pretty good with lt1's on monday if I can't figure it out. He doesn't have a lot of time to deal with it so that's kind of a last resort. The folks at the dealerships here mostly just don't want to mess with it.
Any and all help is greatly apreciated. --J.Bird

Re: Lt1 gurus inside--ignition trouble?
My LT1 started to jerk very bad at WOT a while back. But it wouldnt really stop or anything, it would just lose any throttle response and jerk like a bucking bronco in the rodeo. Turns out i had a couple wires crossing on my engine harness behind the coil.
This happened to me about a month after upgrading my coil. Might want to check that out if it sounds similar.
