Question lt1 engine swap

Hi while on vacation I came upon a 1993 lt1 with a six speed auto and only 50,000 miles on it And already dressed up real pretty. Question on my 96 lt1 w/4 speed auto w/130,000 miles, would I need his pcm and should it bolt right into my 96 The engine is in the family so I will trust him cause it's sitting on a crate covered up trans is also hooked up

Re: lt1 engine swap

Use a stand alone engine harness and it would be a cake walk. I would use the '93 ECM.

Re: lt1 engine swap

The main problem with using a 93 T56 in any application is that it has much different gear ratios in the lower gears (there are actually 2 different 93 gear sets), and has a lower torque rating.

4_3

Using the 93 ECM will require that you live with the batch fire injection (instead of full sequential), and speed-density (in lieu of mass air sensor).

Re: lt1 engine swap

Maybe I missed something here, but why not just take the timing cover off your 96 and put it on your 93 engine then use the 96 opti and ECM? Just replace the cam with OBD II cam and that should do it. Some states might have a problem with an original OBD II car that is really a OBDI set up. So just keep it OBD II.
