LT1 engine swap
LT1 engine swap
Can I swap a 1995, 96 or 1997 LT1 engine into my 1994 Z28 automatic? I am staring to look for a motor to replace mine. I have close to 300,000 miles! I would like to have the later Opti set up but I am told there are other issues? If anyone has an LT! 4 sale let me know. I am in the Los Angeles area.
Thanks.

Re: LT1 engine swap
No problem swapping a 95-97 engine into your 94. 95 will be identical, except for the routing of the EGR vacuum line, and the vent/vacuum lines for the Opti.
If you get one from a 96/97 you will have to swap your 94 knock sensor into the 96/97 engine. And with a 96/97 engine, you will end up with a crank position sensor on the timing cover that will not connect to anything (no problem), and an EVAP vacuum detection switch on the passenger side valve cover that will not connecto to anything (no problem). The exhaust manifolds will have to be from your 94, since the AIR tube connection diameter is different on the 96/97 dual cat exhaust manifolds, and the outlet flange on the 96/97 dual cat exhbaust manifold is different.
If you have an early 94 engine it will have the oil pressure sensor above the oil filter, while late 94 and 95-97 have the oil pressure sensor on the top of the block behind the intake manifold.
