lt1 edit vs. pcm for less or other tunners

I have the opportunity to pick up a lt1 edit program already paired to my car and cord....basically everything i'll need for 200. The guy I bought the car from has it. I know that you can find lt1 edit programs others have made up and download them for free....is the lt1 edit the way to go for the money???

The free ones and scanners are only OBD1. If that's LT1 Edit for OBD2 those are like $500. If it is just OBD1 then you can get Tuner Cat and cable for about the same (if someone still sells the cable).

Been around for at least 12-13 years. You only have two choices on OBD-I tuning for the LT1 - LT1_Edit or TunerCat.

Best place to get info like this is on the "Computer Diagnostics and Tuning" forum.

Tunercat will do the same thing. It and the cable are less than $200 new. Plus, Tunercat is not VIN locked. You can use it on multiple cars. It's your choice, but I would see if he would sell it to you for less money.

LT1 Edit does less than tunercat, has much less customer support and as mentioned is VIN locked meaning unless you pay $50 you can not even use it in a spare pcm.

At one point I bought a laptop with LT1 Edit and tried to reregister it to me and add a VIN. They were really not helpful and it ended up being cheaper to just buy Tunercat and a cable. Was a pleasant surprise that it did more, has continuing exellent support and is not VIN locked so I can use it on spare pcms.

Besides that I think LT1 Edit was only $200 new nearly a decade ago so IF it were worthwhile(it's not) that is still an outrageous price een with the cable.

Once you buy the Tunercat definition file it is yours forever, including updates.

You need latest version of the C.A.T.S. Tuner program (currently 2.23) and the $EE definition file. The cable the guy has should work.
