LT1 deletions

So I got a real nice '97 M6 Convertible from a buddy of mine which needed a new head gasket. Took care of that. Well soon I would like to delete all the things I did on my '94. Mainly the EGR and the Smog system. Probably get a set of headers to aasist in that, but won't the '97 need to be re-programmed to get rid of that stuff?

Yes...or you'll have a constant check engine light. There are a variety of vendors on here that can help you with that.....

Nice choice!!! With the 6 speed you can go to a 3:73 or 4:10 rear ratio and not effect the gas mileage. You just use 5th and 6th more.
This really helps the heavy vert. get moving.

Thanks. I think it will be a great daily driver. Speaking of gears and fuel economy, what do these m6 cars usually get mpg wise?

I get 17/24. used to do a bit better but took a hit with better tires. The Nitto NT555R2's were even worse....

I also have a 6-speed, so you are saying that changing gears to a 3:73 or 4:10 rear ratio can make my z28 faster? all while not really affecting my gas mileage? If that's the case thanks I think that would be my next mod. I use my car on the streets mostly and have noticed that the only time I use 5th and 6th gear is on the highway and that is really rare. A change of gear ratio that makes my z28 quicker without compramissing driveability is exactly what I need! How much do the gears ussually go for and how hard is the installation process?

Different gears won't make your car faster..it'll make it quicker.

If you don't do any highway driving today then switching to a higher numerical ratio won't hurt your fuel economy as you use the car. If you did a lot of highway driving, you'd see a decrease in mileage as the engine would be turning a higher rpm at any road speed, thereby using more fuel...

Gears run under $300 and aren't that easy to install. You might want a shop to help you do it as it takes a few special tools that you might not have....

But only a small amount. Even at 70mph, on the freeway, I was usually in 5th.

4.10 is a good gear for the t56, (should have been an option), it will hurt the milage a little but 5, and 6 overdrives and are very tall might raise 6th a 300-500, rpm at 70, in 6th, but it might actually give you a reason to put it in 6

Agreed. I live in florida and the impact is small here as well..even at 80mph which is our defacto speed limit...LOL
