Lt1 clearance issue

So I got my 383 short block back from the shop and it looks great..Here is the problem,I have a 3.75 stroke with 6.0 inch rods, with everything assembled, oil pump, widage tray, oil pan..#5 and #6 rod caps are hitting the windage tray,is it safe to run the motor without the tray??Also I am using the stock oil pan..

Re: Lt1 clearance issue

Check for clearance and put some washers under the tray to space it up if you have the room. Best to keep the tray if at all possible.

Yeah, definitely keep the windage tray and do like the above post suggests or you can use Milodon studs if you have trouble with the spacing to or get an aftermarket pan with a built in tray notched for strokers, but always check the clearance for the tray and pan or it will make its own clearance after you start it up.

Who makes a nice oil pan for lt1s?I found a morosso oil pan for 269.99 from summit..the block is a true 4 bolt main block with ARP studs..I am gonna try and modify the widage tray and see if that works.

Stock pan worked fine with my Callies 3.75" crank. Very tiny ding with a hammer at one point - totally unnoticeable. Stock windage tray.

Re: Lt1 clearance issue

I used the stock one after my 4 bolt main chainge as well. I had to use a hammer more than "a little bit" and no windage tray. I used that setup for ~5 years but I am now looking into getting an aftermarket pan myself. It seems with all the hammering and drag racing I cannot get this thing to seal anymore. I may just take it down and use RTV all around it but I have had a constant oil leak for the last year and no amount of luck has worked yet to stop it. Plus no windage tray has always made me a bit nervous.
